Guillaume Henry

Artistic Director
of Patou

— To seduce by loving.

In this new podcast episode, we meet Guillaume Henry, the artistic director of Patou. He reflects on his journey, from his first internship at Givenchy to his arrival at Patou, and shares his experience at Nina Ricci. Guillaume Henry also discusses the vision and offices of Patou, as well as the creation of his team. He talks about the difference between fashion and clothing, the importance of passion, and the value of a strong team dynamic.

The wise advice from Jean-Jacques Picart.

Guillaume Henry received wise advice from Jean-Jacques Picart, who told him:

"You should enter a house, observe, learn, and experience frustration. It is from your frustration that your talent will be born. You will have something to say when you know who you are, and you will know who you are by working for others."

Guillaume confirms that it is true.

"It's great when you achieve success, but it becomes problematic when you have to maintain it."

Women, at the heart of fashion

Guillaume Henry has always associated a brand with women, not with products.

I have never been able to associate a brand with clothing codes. I have always seen a woman as someone unique.

At Nina Ricci, Guillaume Henry had the feeling of dressing women he didn't know, and he missed that connection.

And all those dresses I would see in the subway, I stopped noticing them completely. It's like not hearing your own music on the radio at all, it's terrible. I missed it so much.

Managing and creating

Guillaume Henry explains how he chose his team, his management approach, and his creative process. He also highlights the contradiction in the daily demands placed on designers to be definitive while constantly contradicting themselves.

It means that it's yellow because it's not red, but in 6 months, it will be red because it's not yellow. We constantly say, "That's not possible," and the next season, we say, "It's fantastic!" It's crazy, but that's what I love about this profession. However, you absolutely have to have the desire for it.
